At the end of Fall quarter 2014 I was confronted by my schools Fellowship Program advisor, she had heard from one of my teachers that I was interested in possibly studying abroad and that she might be able to help me with the funding aspect. My grades had been exceptional that quarter too which she felt also gave me a good chance to actually succeed at getting a good scholarship. So after winter break I began learning everything I could about applying for a Nationally recognized scholarship. To prepare I attended many online and in-person seminars and had an interview with my Fellowship advisor. After a month of learning about scholarships I began the arduous task of applying. I am fortunate that my college has a writing center which I frequented regularly to make my essays as perfect as they could be and my Fellowship advisor reviewed my essays as well to help me have a polished paper.
Then I applied for the program to study abroad, the national scholarship (Gilman) and local scholarships (Go! and Fritz). Within the next couple of weeks I will begin to get the results back from the months it took to prepare. If I succeed I will continue this blog as a followup project for the scholarship programs.
Currently I attend University of Washington, the study abroad will be
through my school but will also include classes at Renmin University in
Beijing.
